Feeling stuck in automatic behavior that is not serving you anymore? Read about the positive side of emotional and mental patterns, my weird bathroom secret, and how Reiki is a way to create some space and newness in the area's where you feel a little stuck.
I have this thing... something I find so hard to change.
And that is...paparapaparapaaa: standing still while brushing my teeth. As soon as the toothbrush touches my teeth, I start 'doing' other stuff. Like tidying up my place. With one hand (!!) and a little bit of toothpaste dripping from my mouth. ‘Ooohh perfect: a stain on my fresh shirt.’ Not handy. Not practical.
Sometimes I say to myself: Lee, for f*cks sake. just stand still. Relax. Focus on what you are doing. Be Mindful. Be present. But the next moment I catch myself walking around with a pair of shoes in my hand. (Am I the only one? Or do we have more looneys in the room?). It’s actually hilarious. My mind is a retard! A very strong retard.
I sometimes feel like a slave of my crazy monkey mind patterns and I don't like it that it leaves me feeling not in control. Unfree.
This behavior is so deeply programmed in my brain, that it seems hard to break it. Maybe the benefit of this particular behavior is also too good: clean teeth AND a neat house. I honestly think this is the reason that I eventually stopped trying to change it. It doesn't give me too much of a negative side effect (except the stain on my shirt). But at the same time I sometimes feel like a slave of my crazy monkey mind patterns and I don't like it that it leaves me feeling not in control. Unfree.
And (this is the toothbrush-to-life-bridge) the same dynamic is at stake with our emotional and mental patterns. We have many of them, and that's fine. It's normal. Some are not that bad (like a toothbrush neurosis) but the thing is: they hold us back from more intuitive and conscious actions.
Some behaviors are 'reactions' that just don’t seem to work for us, and still we catch ourselves time and time again in this same type of situation, emotion, thought structure or pain.
Some behaviors are 'reactions' that just don’t seem to work for us, and still we catch ourselves time and time again in this same type of situation, emotion, thought structure or pain. I think we all have experienced the small and great sufferings it can cause. You (or maybe even your grand-grand-grandma) started to do stuff in a certain way. Which might have been handy back then, but that is not serving you in this time and age. Yes, I hear you screaming: but I can't help it! ... or can I?
Vavoom! now follows the good part of the story. Deep patterns are not just annoying noise and something to get rid of. They are also literally doorways, opportunities to become more intuitive and conscious. I hear ya... ‘What?! Patterns are my friend?’ Yep. They are. Now let that one sink in for a second ;)

Here is how this process goes down. When a life event is painful or stressful we feel the need for change. In my experience, we often need friction, some sort of conflict, to create an opportunity to change deep-rooted patterns. This friction opens a door through which we can connect to our belly wisdom, truth and inner knowing. It is an opportunity to let go of old emotions. This will definitely bring more aliveness and freshness to your life. And will answer to the intense longing for peace, for freedom, for love that we feel in these moments.
For me, it was Reiki that gave me the practical tools to break down many of my own walls. In short, Reiki sheds aliveness and newness onto reality, helping you see it differently. Broadening your perspective in a gentle way.
For me, it was Reiki that gave me the practical tools to break down many of my own walls, and I am still in the process of letting go patterns that don't serve me anymore. Emotional patterns related to my parents for example (yes: 9 out of 10 times patterns can be traced back to the folks, folks). And Reiki helped me in many more small and big stressful moments in my life: conflicts in my love relationships, during break-ups, work and burn-out situations. How so?
Reiki connects you to your body’s wisdom and quiets the mind in a gentle way. Your body is the place to be if you want to heal and feel more connected and alive. Moving through the experiences by feeling it all the way through until the end, until it dissolves on it’s own, helps you understand yourself better and gives you the opportunity to let go of them good ol’ patterns. In short, Reiki sheds aliveness and newness onto reality, helping you see it differently and broadening your perspective.
